When you are working with image files, it is important to use an image file that is the right size for the purpose you need. You should never use your webpage editor to resize the image, because that will cause it to degrade in quality. Instead, if you need to resize an image, you need to actually change the image file with software designed for resizing images. When images cannot be made larger, it is easier to make a smaller version of an image, using the appropriate software.
If you already have image editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop, on your computer, you can complete this assignment using that software.
If, however, you just need to resize a few images, you may find it easiest to do that using online services, such as ShrinkPictures.com, which allows you make smaller versions of images, or a site like Picnik.com, which allows you not only to resize images but also to crop them and other editing options.
For the purposes of this assignment, you are free to use any kind of software program or online service. What you need to do is to take this large image of a sunflower and resize it, sending me back two different versions of the image in the email. One image should be 200 pixels wide and should be called SunflowerSmall and the other image should be 500 pixels wide and should be called SunflowerLarge.
If you are using the ShrinkPictures.com service, here is how you can do that:
1. Go to the large image of a sunflower, right-mouse click on the image, and save it to your Desktop.
2. Next, go to ShrinkPictures.com and use the Browse button to upload the image you just saved.
3. Choose the "Custom" size and type in 200, then click the Resize button. When you see the new image appear on the screen, right-mouse click and save the file as SunflowerSmall.
4. Repeat the process. setting the size to 500, and save the resulting file as SunflowerLarge.
When you finish the assignment, using whatever method you prefer, you will need to send an email to the instructor with the two new image files attached: SunflowerSmall and SunflowerLarge. Do not attach the original jumbo image. You should only attach the two files you have created.
