Technology Tips: Foxmarks for your Firefox Bookmarks

Foxmarks is a plug-in for the Firefox browser with two extremely useful features:

1. If you work on more than one computer (say, a desktop computer but also a laptop), Foxmarks will synchronize the bookmarks between your two computers. If you save a bookmark in your browser on one computer, it will show up in the bookmarks on your other computer, and vice versa.
2. If you sometimes work on public computers (for example, in the Bizzell Library computer area, or one of the computer labs on campus), you can access your bookmarks online, from any computer anywhere.

To use Foxmarks, you need to have the Firefox web browser already installed on your computer (Firefox is a great browser option for both Windows and Macintosh computers).

This Foxmarks Technology Tip has several steps:

STEP ONE: Install Foxmarks. To install Foxmarks, just go to the Foxmarks website and follow the instructions there. If you have questions or problems, check their Frequently Asked Questions page. They also have a Getting Started page which you might find helpful. The Product Features page explains the different ways you can use Foxmarks to optimize and organize all your bookmarks.

STEP TWO: Log on to MyFoxmarks. After you have set up Foxmarks on your computer, go to the Foxmarks log-in page. After you have logged in, click on My Foxmarks along the top of the screen. This is where you can access all the bookmarks you have stored, including all the folders and subfolders. This is how you can access your bookmarks from any computer, including a computer in the library or in a computer lab.

STEP THREE: Send screenshot. You need to take a screenshot of your MyFoxmarks screen, and send that to the instructor via email. Here are the instructions for taking a screenshot. It should look something like the screenshot image shown above. If you are in the Myth-Folklore class, use the Subject Line Myth-Folklore Foxmarks; if you are in Indian Epics, Indian Epics Foxmarks; or for World Literature, World Lit Foxmarks.

After you have sent me the email, you are done with the assignment! When you have sent in the email, you can do the Gradebook Declaration for Extra Credit.
