In this assignment, you will learn how to take a screenshot. If you already have a preferred method for taking a screenshot of your computer, that is fine; you can use whatever method you prefer to do the screenshot. There are lots of software packages you can use to create screenshots. If you do not already know how to make a screenshot, please follow the instructions at the bottom of this page (based on whether you are using a Windows or Macintosh computer).
PART ONE: Take a screenshot that shows your computer desktop (sample). This should be an image file in a standard image file format (png or jpeg or gif). DO NOT SENT A BITMAP (BMP) IMAGE; bitmap images are too large for most email programs.
PART TWO: Send me an email with the resulting image file attached to the email. If you are in the Myth-Folklore class, give your email a Subject Line that says: Myth-Folklore Screenshot; if you are in World Literature, use the Subject Line World Lit Screenshot; if you are in Indian Epics, use the Subject Line Indian Epics Screenshot.
Windows ONLY Are you using Windows Vista? Here are instructions for using the Vista Snipping Tool to take a screenshot. Are you using Windows XP? Here are instructions for taking a screenshot in Windows XP using the PrintKey button and the Paint application - BUT MAKE SURE YOU SAVE THE FILE AS GIF OR JPEG. When you do File-Save As, you need to choose jpeg or gif as the file format option. Do not save it as a .bmp (bitmap) file, which is sometimes the default option. I strongly recommend that you learn how to use Windows to take a screenshot so that you can get a complete screen image. Alternative: If you have tried using these instructions to take a Windows screenshot but are still unable to do that... you could go buy a Mac! (Ha ha, just kidding.) Since I do not have a Windows computer, I cannot provide technical support for Windows-specific problems, but there is a way to take a screenshot using Firefox. So, please install Firefox on your computer, and you can then install the Firefox Screengrab Add-On to be able to get a screenshot of the contents of your browser screen. After you install the Screengrab add-on, you will see a little Screengrab
icon in your status bar at the bottom of the Firefox screen (if you
do not see the Status bar, turn it on using the View menu). Here is
what the icon looks like: Just click on the Screengrab icon, and choose Save - Complete Page. You will be prompted to give the file a name and to save it to a location on your computer. Save the file with the name screenshot.png (make sure you include the .png extension if your computer does not do that automatically for you) and make sure you save it in a place you can easily remember, like on your desktop.

Macintosh ONLY It is easy to take a screenshot using Mac OS-X! To capture the entire screen, press Command-Shift-3 (of, if you prefer, you can use Command-Shift-4 to take a partial screenshot). The image file will be saved to your Desktop. Life is good on the Mac. :-) |
When you are done with the assignment, you can complete the Gradebook Declaration.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY: I have sent the instructor an email with a screenshot image attached in a standard image file format (png, jpeg or gif). |
