Browser Screenshot Assignment

In this assignment, you will learn how to take a screenshot. Being able to send me a screenshot can be really important for getting technical assistance in this class later in the semester, so you need to learn how to do this correctly! If you already have a preferred method for taking a screenshot of your computer, that is fine; you can use whatever method you prefer to do the screenshot. If you do not know how to make a screenshot, please follow the instructions at the bottom of this page (based on whether you are using a Windows or Macintosh computer).

PART ONE: Take a screenshot that shows your computer desktop (sample image). This should be an image file in a standard image file format (png or jpeg or gif).

PART TWO: Send me an email with the resulting image file attached to the email. If you are in the Myth-Folklore class, give your email a Subject Line that says: Myth-Folklore Screenshot; if you are in World Literature, use the Subject Line World Lit Screenshot; if you are in Indian Epics, use the Subject Line Indian Epics Screenshot.

When you are done with the assignment, you can complete the Gradebook Declaration.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

I have sent the instructor an email with a screenshot image attached in a standard image file format (png, jpeg or gif).

Windows ONLY

Are you using Windows Vista? If so, you can use the built-in Snipping Tool to take a screenshot. Here are instructions for using the Snipping Tool. (Since I do not use Windows, I cannot provide specific help in using this tool, but it should work!)

If you are not using Windows Vista, or are having trouble with the Snipping Tool, use the Firefox option below.

Macintosh ONLY

It is easy to take a screenshot using Mac OS-X!

To capture the entire screen, press Command-Shift-3 (you can use Command-Shift-4 to take a partial screenshot). The image file will be saved to your Desktop. You can change the name of the file if you want by right-clicking on the file and selected Get Info: Name and Extension.

Windows-Macintosh Firefox option: If you are using Firefox as your browser, you can install the Firefox Screengrab Add-On to do your screenshot.

After you install the Screengrab add-on, you will see a little Screengrab icon in your status bar at the bottom of the Firefox screen (if you do not see the Status bar, turn it on using the View menu). Here is what the icon looks like:

Just click on the Screengrab icon, and choose Save - Complete Page. You will be prompted to give the file a name and to save it to a location on your computer. Save the file with the name screenshot.png (make sure you include the .png extension if your computer does not do that automatically for you).
