Activating Your OU Webspace

As a student, staff, or faculty member at OU, you have university webspace that is available to you where you can publish your schoolwork online. This assignment has three steps that you need to complete before you do the Gradebook Declaration. (Note: If you have already activated your OU webspace, you can skip to Step Two.)

STEP ONE: Activate your web account. To activate your web account, go to http://account.ou.edu and follow the instructions provided there. Here is what you will see:

NOTE: Using other webspace. For the serious webfolks out there, you are free to publish your course website at a non-OU address if you want. My only requirement is that no advertising appear on the website you create for this course. If you choose to use an off-campus hosting service, please activate your OU web account and put up a redirect page from your OU web account to the off-campus web address that you will be using.

STEP TWO: Look yourself up at search.ou.edu. After you have activated your account, your http web address will be listed at the search.ou.edu site, along with your name and OU email address. The web address will take the form of a clickable link, as shown here in blue. The web address should be visible immediately after you activate your webspace, although in some cases you may need to wait until the next business day before your web address will be listed.

NOTE: Directory Hold. If you have a Directory Hold on your information, you will not be listed in the search.ou.edu directory. That is not a problem. Just send me an email explaining that you have a Directory Hold, and then go ahead and complete the Gradebook Declaration.

STEP THREE: Click on the blue link.To make sure the activation process is complete, click on the link. You should see the default Orientation page that is automatically created for you when your webspace is activated:

Please do not complete the Gradebook Declaration until you have clicked on the link and confirmed that your web address is functioning properly. About 10% of the time the system does not work properly (the OU web is absolutely ancient, running on very very old equipment with very very old software).

If for some reason your account does not activate properly, contact the IT Helpdesk at 325-HELP and tell them to activate your webspace for you. If IT is not able to help you (sometimes they are not entirely helpful), please contact me and we'll get things sorted out! Don't worry: if it takes some extra time to get your webspace activated because of a problem with OU IT, I'll record the points for you manually in lieu of the Declaration. Do NOT do the Declaration until you have clicked on your webspace link and verified that it is working.

Gradebook Declaration:

Please do not complete the Gradebook Declaration until you have successfully completed all the steps of this assignment.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

I have activated my OU webspace.

I have verified my webspace address in the Search Directory OR I have notified the instructor that I have a Directory Hold on my information.
